CNC WATER JET

WATER JET CUTTING

For components made of relatively soft materials, or materials that are sensitive to the high temperatures of other CNC cutting processes, Kessington maintains several CNC water jet cutting machines. Our CNC water jet machines are capable of precision and speed in fabricating various materials.

CNC WATER JET CUTTING AT KESSINGTON AEROSPACE

Water jet cutting is a process that uses a high-pressure water jet to cut through materials to obtain the desired part shape. The water is filtered to remove any contaminants or compounds that might lead to premature corrosion of the material and to obtain the high pressure needed for consistent cutting. When mixed with an abrasive substance, water jets can also cut harder materials that it would otherwise struggle with, such as stainless steel or hardened steel. This is often used in the Aerospace manufacturing industry to cut brass, Inconel, and aluminum as well.

EXCELLENT FOR SHAPING WORKPIECES

Water jet cutting is excellent for shaping workpieces without interfering with the inherent structure of the material, since they’re little to no heat affected zone (HAZ). In other words, they cut the material without altering any of its intrinsic properties. It’s an excellent and highly precise way to manufacture complex shapes from heterogeneous materials. CNC water jet cutting also has the added benefit of being dust-free, odorless, and heat free, making it a safer operation as well compared to other methods.

Most often, water jet cutting is an excellent choice for manufacturing aerospace components such as:

  • Braking components
  • Landing gear parts
  • Brackets
  • 718 & 625 Inconel components
