CNC LATHES
Kessington Aerospace has a wide range of CNC lathes for manufacturing. As well as the more traditional CNC milling and turning machines, we also have Swiss lathes and multi-axis CNC machining centers for specialized or complicated parts.
MULTI-AXIS MACHINING
Multi-axis machining involves the use of tools that can move and shape a workpiece from four or more directions. The tools mill away excess material in order to achieve the desired shape of the part.
Due to its versatility, CNC multi-axis machining is generally used for intricate parts, or for components that have complicated geometries and tight tolerances–components that are often found in Aerospace applications. Also, this type of manufacturing is more efficient, as there is rarely a need for an operator to standby and repeat the set-up process between operations. This reduces the chances of error and reduces the time needed to complete production runs.
Kessington Aerospace has CNC Lathes that are capable of cutting on five, nine, and eleven axes. With these machines, we make refueling components, munitions components, brake and landing gear, tube fittings and flow-control parts among other complex metal parts.
SWISS CNC TURNING
Swiss turning is a specialized type of manufacturing originally developed to make miniature screws for watches, and was eventually adapted for use in several other industries as well. Because of their ability to produce ultra-precise, tiny parts, Swiss screw machines are ideal for small, critical aerospace components.
Kessington maintains several Swiss turning lathes, which are CNC turning machines designed specifically for producing small and complicated components. Swiss lathes are perfect for small parts that must meet tight tolerances, are incredibly complex in their design, or both. Our Swiss screw machines also often eliminate secondary operations that would otherwise be necessary, since they can do many different operations, such as milling, drilling, and turning.
